Contents of the Seminar

The goal of the seminar is to introduce students to the

• critical reading
• understanding
• summarizing
• presenting

of scientific papers. Contents are selected topics from the field of Digital Farming (digitalization in agriculture).

Overview

Each participant can choose a seminar topic, which is supervised by a tutor. We will meet once in the beginning as a group during the kick-off meeting. You will then work on your topic during the semester. There will be no group meetings during this time, but you and your tutor will organize meetings among yourselves. You will read relevant literature and prepare a written paper, which you will hand in at the end of the semester.

• The first deliverable will be an annotated table of contents showing the planned structure of your paper with some notes on each section about the planned content.
• The second and third deliverable are a draft version and the final version of your written paper.
• To conclude the seminar, all participants will give a presentation of their topic to the group.

We will announce further information during the kick-off meeting.

Topics

In agriculture, there is a high degree of heterogeneity between the individual actors and the systems used. This makes it difficult to network different systems due to a lack of interoperability. Digital farming solutions (e.g. farm management systems, decision support systems, agricultural machinery) also often have a low user acceptance due to a lack of transparency.

Our research aims to address the challenges described above and focuses on three key areas:

• More efficient data management (How to improve data exchange between partners?)
• Improving user adoption (Why are many farmers not willing to try digital systems?)
• Lack of interoperability (What can be done to make systems from different vendors more compatible with each other?).
